Our place is out at 69/2 in Chandrada Taluka, right off the Ahmedabad - Mehsana Highway. If you’re driving past, you might miss the turnoff if you aren't paying attention because the trucks move pretty fast through here. It’s dusty most of the year, especially when the wind picks up across the open land near Kadi. We’ve got a big shed where most of the work happens. It gets hot under the roof in the afternoons, so we usually have a few big fans going to keep the air moving. The sound of the machines is pretty much the background music of our lives. We’ve been operating out of this highway spot for quite some time. Most of the guys live in the nearby villages and commute in on their bikes every morning. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big lobby. There’s just a small office room in the corner where the ledger books and the computer sit. Usually, someone is outside checking the gate or moving some crates around. Lunch is usually spent sitting together under the shade of the few trees we have left near the entrance. It’s hard work and the days are long, but that’s just how it is out here. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait for the generator to kick in. It’s a busy spot but we like the routine of it and the way things move.
