Our workshop is at No. 4/5 in the Industrial Estate on Nandini Road. It’s a gritty part of town, but that is where the real work happens. You can’t really escape the sound of grinding metal or the heavy thud of machinery coming from the other units nearby. Our space is quite large, with high corrugated metal roofs that get very loud when it rains. We spend most of our time out on the floor dealing with various engineering projects. There is always a layer of fine dust on everything and the smell of machine oil is pretty much permanent. We have a small office section partitioned off in the front where we keep the computer and all the technical manuals. It’s usually a bit of a mess in there, with blueprints scattered across the desk and coffee mugs that haven't been washed in a day or two. We’ve been on Nandini Road for a long time, so we know all the delivery drivers and the other business owners in the estate. We don't have a sales team or anyone to answer the phones in a professional way. If the phone rings, whoever is closest just wipes their hands on a rag and picks it up. It’s a straightforward operation. We focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the parts are sturdy. It is hard work, but it feels good to see something finished.
