Zaubear Khan

My business, Zaubear Khan, is situated right in the middle of Partawal Bazar. We are very close to the State Bank of India, which is a major landmark in the Tehsil Sadar area of Gorakhpur. It is a very busy and crowded marketplace. There are always people moving about, and the noise from the street is something you just have to live with. I run a small operation here, mostly dealing with local trade and general supplies that people need. It isn't a big corporation with lots of rules; it's just me and a couple of guys helping out. We don't have a polished showroom or any fancy displays. The shop is filled with various goods, and sometimes it's hard to find a place to stand. We open up early to catch the morning crowd and stay open as long as there is business to be had. Gorakhpur is a place where you have to be tough to make it. We don't do any real marketing; being in Partawal Bazar means people find us eventually. Sometimes the power goes out, or the rain floods the street, but we just keep going. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. It’s a community-based business where a handshake still means something. We don't have any big goals of expanding; we just want to keep the shop running and serve the folks who live around here.
