Usha Precision Works

Our workshop, Usha Precision Works, is at No. 15/3 Varidampillai 1st Street in Tavitusandi. It’s a bit tucked away, so you really have to look for the sign on the gate. We have a few lathes and milling machines that take up most of the floor space. The floor is usually a bit oily, and we have to be careful not to slip when we’re moving heavy metal parts around. Precision work means we have to be very careful with our measurements, often using calipers to check things over and over. Tavitusandi is an old area, and the buildings here are close together, so we try not to run the loudest machines too late at night so we don't bother the neighbors. We have a small radio that plays local songs in the background, though you can barely hear it over the grinding sounds. It’s just a few of us working here, and we’ve been doing this for a long time. Our clothes usually smell like machine oil and metal shavings. There’s a small desk near the window where we keep our ledgers and some old blueprints. We don't have a fancy website or any marketing; people just find us through word of mouth or by walking down Varidampillai 1st Street. It’s honest, difficult work that requires a lot of patience and a steady hand. We spend a lot of time cleaning the machines after we finish a job to keep them running.
