Textile Testing & Development Centre

We spend most of our time here at number 153 in the Sidco Industrial Estate. It’s usually pretty loud around here because of all the other units in Kappalur, but inside our doors, things are a bit more focused. We’ve been at this for a while now, just looking at different types of fabric and running them through the machines to see how they hold up. It isn't very fancy work, honestly. Most mornings start with a quick cleanup of the workspace before the samples start coming in from the local mills. We have these old testing rigs that hum all day long. Sometimes the heat in the industrial estate gets to be a bit much, especially in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going at full speed. It’s just a small group of us here. We don't really have a big front office or anything like that. People just drop off their materials and we get to work on the reports. It’s a lot of looking at threads under the light and writing down numbers on clipboards. We’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the place. The tea guy comes by around eleven, and that’s usually the highlight of the morning. We just try to get the results out as fast as we can so the manufacturers can move on with their production. It’s steady work, and we’re right here in the heart of the estate if anyone needs us.
