T. Sreenivasalu Chettiar

Over at 13, Thayar Kulam Road, you'll find the shop of T. Sreenivasalu Chettiar. It’s one of those places that has been around so long it feels like it’s built into the street itself. We deal in various goods, mostly things the locals need for their homes or small businesses. We don't use a lot of technology here. Most of our accounts are still kept in those big red ledgers by hand. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but it works for us. We don’t have a big staff. It’s usually just a couple of us behind the counter. The shop is packed with inventory from floor to ceiling. It might look a bit messy to an outsider, but we know exactly where every single item is located. If you ask for something specific, we can usually dig it out from a back corner. We don't do much in the way of advertising. We don’t have a sign that lights up at night. People just know the name T. Sreenivasalu Chettiar and they know where Thayar Kulam Road is. It’s a quiet kind of business. We talk to the customers about their families while we weigh out their orders. It’s not a rushed environment. We take our time and try to be honest about what we're selling. That’s how we've stayed open all these years. No fancy tricks, just a normal shop for the local community.
