Sri Meenakshi Metal

Our shop is at No- 3 and 4 on South Chitrai Street. We are very close to the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, so the area is always full of people and activity. Being in such a historic part of town means things are always moving. Sri Meenakshi Metal is a small place packed with different metal goods. You can hear the temple bells throughout the day while we work. The street is narrow, and it gets quite crowded with devotees and tourists, which makes getting stock in and out a bit of a challenge sometimes. We've been in this spot for a while. The shelves are a bit old and we have things stacked up high to make use of the space. It’s not a modern store by any means. It’s a traditional setup where you come in and ask for what you need. Most of our days are spent talking to customers who walk in from the street. We handle a lot of different items, mostly household or utility stuff made of various metals. It feels like part of the community here. We know the other shopkeepers on the street quite well. It’s a busy life, but we like being right in the heart of Madurai. We just open the doors and see who the day brings in. There is always a lot of chatter outside the entrance, and the smell of jasmine is everywhere. We keep things simple and just focus on the counter.
