Our place, Sri Komagal Chit Funds (INDIA) Private Limited, is located at 5/3, Meyyappan II Street in the Gnanolivupuram area of Madurai. It is a typical street in a busy part of the city, and we have been operating out of this building for some time. Instead of big flashing signs out front, we just have a simple board so people know they’ve found the right door. The office itself is pretty basic. A few desks are scattered around where we sit and go through the daily books. Madurai is known for its heat and its crowds, and our neighborhood is no different. You can hear the sounds of the city through the windows all day long. Because we like a friendly atmosphere, we keep a few chairs near the entrance for people who stop by to talk or finish their paperwork. It’s very informal here. We aren't the type to wear fancy clothes or use complicated words. Talking to people like they are our neighbors comes naturally, mostly because they are. There are stacks of files everywhere because we haven't quite moved everything over to computers yet. Real ledger books still feel better to us. Our days are mostly spent doing calculations and checking dates. It’s steady work that requires a lot of patience. Usually, we close up once the sun starts to set and the air cools down a little bit. It’s a simple life for us here, just focusing on the tasks that need doing.
