Sks Traders

We are based at No. 57 South Masi Street, inside the Annalakshmi Bavanam building. If you’ve ever been to Madurai, you know how busy South Masi Street can get. It’s an old building with a lot of character, and we’ve been trading from here for a good while. We deal in various types of clothes and fabrics, mostly just acting as the middle point between the makers and the shops. The building has a lot of stairs, and moving heavy bundles up and down is quite a workout every morning. Our space is filled with the smell of new cotton and the sound of the street outside. It’s a very traditional area, so we see a lot of the same faces every week. We don’t have a website or any of that stuff; people just know we’re here in the Bavanam. Sometimes we sit out on the steps for a bit when the trade is slow, just watching the traffic go by. There’s a lot of history in these walls, even if they’re a bit cracked now. We just do our business, count the stock, and make sure the accounts are right at the end of the day. It’s a steady way to live and we’re happy to be part of the street’s daily life. It’s nothing fancy, just a trading spot in a busy part of town where things haven't changed much.
