Madurai Decorators

Our base is at No. 1/94 Kaveriammal Illam, right across from the market on Pallivasal Street in Silaiman. It’s a busy spot, especially in the mornings when the market is in full swing. At Madurai Decorators, our storeroom is packed with rolls of colored cloth, bundles of bamboo poles, and crates of lights. Everything smells a bit like incense and old fabric. We spend a lot of our time loading and unloading the van. Since we’re on the way to S. Puliankulam, we’re often traveling to different villages for functions. It’s hard work, especially when we have to set up a big pandal in the midday sun. Our hands are usually stained with dye or a bit dusty from the ropes. We don't have a fancy showroom; if people want to see our work, we just show them photos on our phones or they see us at the local events. Most of our meetings happen standing up or sitting on a bench outside the shop. Sometimes we're working through the night to make sure a stage is ready for a morning wedding. It’s exhausting, but we’re used to the long hours. We usually grab some snacks from the market vendors across the street when we have a spare minute. It’s a local business through and through, run by people who aren't afraid of a bit of heavy lifting and late nights, even when the rain starts to fall.
