Rajaji Hospital

Being in Madurai, you get used to the crowds and the heat pretty fast. Rajaji Hospital is just part of the landscape in this city. Most people around here have stopped in at least once over the years. It's a place that stays open through everything, no matter what is going on outside. We have shifts that change over early in the morning, and there's always someone around to help out. The floors get cleaned a lot because of all the dust that blows in from the street outside. It’s a simple setup we have here. We don't have those fancy touchscreens or high-tech lobbies that you see on TV. Just desks, chairs, and doctors doing their thing. People come from the surrounding villages too. They often bring their whole families along and stay the day. It gets crowded in the hallways, especially in the mornings when the sun is already starting to get hot. We try to keep the fans running at full speed to keep the air moving. It’s just how things go in Madurai. You work with what you have and don't complain about it much. The staff mostly lives in the nearby blocks, so we walk or take a cycle to get here. It’s a real community thing. Not much to look at from the street, but inside we are just keeping busy. There's always a bit of a line for the registration desk, and people just wait their turn while talking to each other.
