Maniraja Bore Wells

Working out of No. 55 on Keelavaithiyanatha Puram 4th Street keeps us right in the thick of things. Drilling bore wells isn't the cleanest job in the world, so you’ll usually see us covered in a bit of mud or dust from the rigs. We spend a lot of time out on the trucks, but this street is where we keep everything organized. There’s a lot of heavy iron and pipes lying around the yard, and we’re always checking the engines to make sure they won't quit halfway through a job. Finding water deep in the ground is more of an art than people think, and we’ve been doing it long enough to know the soil around here pretty well. It’s noisy work when the drills are going, but it’s satisfying when you finally hit a good vein of water. We don't have a fancy office with leather chairs; we have a desk with a lot of maps and old receipts on it. People come by the 4th street address when they’re planning to build or if their old well has gone dry. We just tell them how it is, how deep we might have to go, and what the ground looks like. It’s a tough way to make a living, but somebody has to make sure there's water for the houses and farms.
