We set up our office in K Pudhur a while back. It is on 3rd Street in Viswanatha Nagar, which is a fairly quiet spot if you can believe it for Madurai. Being near Jeevaram Hospital makes it easy to give people directions when they are trying to find us for the first time. We spend most of our time drawing up plans and figuring out how buildings should actually look on the ground. It is mostly just a few of us sitting with papers, pencils, and our computers. Madurai has a very specific style, and we try to work with that while making things functional. It is not always an easy balance to find. Clients come in with all sorts of ideas they saw online. Some of those ideas work for our climate, but many do not. We spend hours talking about where the windows should go or how the light hits a room at noon. Our space is pretty basic. No big reception area or fancy furniture, just a place to get the work done. Sometimes we have to head out to the sites to see if the builders are actually following the drawings we made. That is the noisy part of the job. Seeing the lines on a piece of paper become real walls is still interesting to us. We take it one project at a time and try to keep things simple.
