Inparasan Store

Living and working in Melur means you get used to the heat pretty fast. My shop, Inparasan Store, is located right in the middle of Sekkadi Bazaar. It is a busy place, especially on market days when everyone from the nearby villages comes into Madurai. I keep a bit of everything because you never know what someone might ask for. One person wants a specific soap, and the next one needs some matches or a packet of snacks. The bazaar is always noisy with horns and people shouting, but inside the shop, it is just me and the shelves. I have spent a lot of years sitting behind this counter. You see children grow up and start coming in to buy things for their own houses. It makes me realize how long I have been here. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but I usually spend my time reorganizing the inventory instead. It is a simple life. We don't have air conditioning, just a small fan that rattles in the corner. People like to stand under the fan for a minute while I pack their bags. I do my own accounts in a thick notebook every night before closing the shutters. There are no computers here. Just honest work and making sure I have enough stock for the next morning when the bazaar wakes up again. It is a good way to live, even if it is a bit tiring. My family has been in Melur for generations, so staying here in the bazaar feels right.
