Elias Textiles

Our place is at number 27 West Tower Street. It’s a busy street with a lot of shops and people walking around at all hours. Elias Textiles is a small operation compared to some of the big factories you see further out. We’ve been in this building for quite a while, and the stairs are starting to show their age. It’s a bit of a climb if you’re carrying heavy rolls of fabric. The light in the workspace isn't the best, so we use a lot of lamps to see what we are doing with the threads and cloth. It’s often a bit cluttered with samples and offcuts lying around on the benches. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. Usually, if the phone rings, whoever is closest to it picks up. It’s just us doing our thing. The street noise outside never really stops, but you stop noticing it after a while. We drink a lot of tea to stay sharp during the long shifts. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. Sometimes the fabric deliveries arrive late, and we have to stay late to get them sorted, but that’s just how it is. We don't put on a show for anyone. We just handle the textiles and try to keep everything organized in our own way. The windows are old and rattle when a big truck goes by.
