Madurai is a hot place to work, especially out here in Rajambadi. We are tucked away in Palkalai Nagar at house number 2 261. Chris And Gamy Fashions Private Limited is basically just a few rooms filled with different types of cloth and sewing thread. It is not a big glass office building like you see in the city center. It is just the place where we show up every morning to start our day. We started this small business because we wanted to work for ourselves and stay close to home. Most of our days involve looking at samples and making sure the stitching on the garments is straight. We have neighbors who have lived in Kalveenagar forever, and they are used to the hum of our machines. Sometimes the power goes out in the middle of the afternoon, and we just have to sit and wait it out. That is just part of life here. We do not have a marketing department or anyone to handle big presentations. It is just us handling everything from the big rolls of fabric to the final packing tape. Every now and then, the workspace gets a bit crowded with new stock, but we manage to find a way through the piles. It is a regular local business trying to keep things moving forward. We just do our best with what we have and don't make a big deal about it.
