Kalpana Teaders & Hardware

The shop, Kalpana Teaders & Hardware, is located in the Town Thikaha area of Raj Nagar. We are really close to Lakshmeshwar Singh College, so we see a lot of students walking past every day on their way to classes. Madhubani has its own rhythm, and being here in Raj Nagar feels like being right in the middle of it all. The shop itself is packed with all kinds of hardware—nails, hammers, pipes, and all those small bits and pieces that people need for their homes. It’s often a bit of a mess because there are so many different things to keep track of. I spend a lot of my time searching through drawers to find the right size of screw for someone. People come in and talk about their building projects, and we just listen and help them find what they’re looking for. It gets quite crowded in the small space when a few customers show up at once. The street outside is usually full of bicycles and the occasional rickshaw. We open the shutters early and don't really close them until late in the evening. It’s a simple life, just selling hardware and talking to the neighbors. We’ve become a bit of a fixture in this part of town, mostly because we’ve been here long enough that everyone knows where to find the college and us right next to it. It is just a busy, dusty little hardware store.
