Konkan Railway Corporation has this ACD Repair Center right at the Madgaon Railway Station. It is a functional spot where we deal with the anti-collision devices and other technical bits for the trains. Being at the station means there is always the sound of engines and people rushing to catch their platforms. We’re used to the rhythm of the arrivals and departures by now. It’s a practical workspace, not an office meant for guests. There are wires, circuit boards, and testing kits spread across the workbenches. Our crew is usually in their uniforms, focused on whatever unit came in that morning for a check-up. The humid Goa weather can be a bit much sometimes, but the fans keep the air moving inside the center. We don’t have much in the way of decor, just some old charts on the walls and cabinets full of spare parts. It’s an important job because everything needs to work right for the tracks to stay safe. We’ve been at this station for a long time. Some of the staff have worked here since they were young. We eat our lunch while watching the local trains pull in. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s steady work. We know the layout of the station like the back of our hands. If something breaks down, it ends up on our table eventually. We just keep our heads down and fix things until the shift ends and then we go home.
