U K Motors sits right on the edge of G T Road in the Ludhiana district. Being so close to the petrol pump means there is a constant stream of cars and trucks passing by our front door. It’s a noisy part of town, but that is good for a motor business. We spend most of our time out in the bay or at the front counter. The shop is filled with the smell of rubber and engine oil, which is something you just get used to after a week of working here. We mostly deal with the regular maintenance that people need when they are driving long distances on the highway. We’ve got a few mechanics who have been with us for a long time and they know their way around almost any engine. It’s not a polished showroom; it’s a working garage where the floors have some stains and the walls are covered in old calendars and tool racks. We open up pretty early to catch the morning traffic and usually don't close until it gets dark. Sometimes we stay late if a driver is stuck and needs to get moving again. There is no fancy waiting area, just a wooden bench where you can sit and watch the traffic go by on the G T Road. We just try to do the job right so people can get where they are going. It is a simple life and a simple business that we have run for many years now.
