S.S. Hobbing Works

We are over on Street No. 5 in Chet Singh Nagar, right near Gill Road. Our shop is pretty close to Radha Swami Road, so it's easy enough to find if you know the area. We specialize in hobbing work, which mostly means we spend our days making gears and cutting teeth into metal parts. It’s a very specific kind of job and the machines we use are quite loud. We’ve been in this part of Chet Singh Nagar for years, and the neighborhood has grown up around us. The workshop isn't very big, so we have to be careful about where we put everything. There’s always a faint smell of cutting oil in the air. We don't have any office staff; it’s just the people who do the actual work. Sometimes the gears are small and sometimes they are quite large, depending on what the customer brings in. We just take the drawings or the old parts and try to match them up exactly. It takes a lot of patience to get the settings right on the machines. We usually have a radio playing in the background to keep us going through the long shifts. It’s a straightforward business with no frills. We just focus on getting the gears right so they don't fail when they are put into a machine. That’s what we do every day here. If you drop by, you’ll probably find us covered in a bit of grease and metal dust.
