The office is at 48, Professor Colony on Barewal Road. It’s a nice enough area with a lot of older houses and big trees. Harmandeep Kaur stays busy at her desk most of the day, usually surrounded by sketches and half-eaten snacks. We have a couple of assistants who help out with the site visits. The office is just a few rooms with a lot of natural light coming through the big windows. We have a printer that jams at least once a day, which is always frustrating. There are scraps of paper and fabric samples scattered around the floor. We try to keep it tidy but it never stays that way for long. Most of our clients are just regular people wanting to build their first home. They come in with their kids and their ideas, and we sit down to see what we can do. We don't promise anything impossible. We just look at the space and draw what fits. The tea here is usually too sweet, but nobody complains. In the winter, it gets a bit chilly so we use a small heater under the desk. We’ve been in this colony for a while, and we know the local shops pretty well. It’s a steady kind of job. We draw the lines, check the measurements, and go out to the sites to make sure the walls are straight. It’s not glamorous, but it is what we do.
