You can find us over in Gurdev Nagar, at house number 2785/1. It is a busy part of town and finding a parking spot can be a bit of a headache sometimes. Mallika stays busy with her drawings and the local contractors who come in with mud on their boots. We don't have a receptionist, so whoever is closest to the door usually answers it. The office smells like old paper and ink. There is a small window that looks out onto the street where you can see the neighbors walking their dogs in the evening. Most of the time, the big table in the middle is covered with rolled-up blueprints and half-finished cups of coffee. We use a lot of pencils. The sharpener is always running. It’s not the kind of place where you have to dress up. We wear what is comfortable for visiting construction sites. Sometimes the internet goes out when it rains hard, and we just have to wait it out. It is a simple life here. We handle the local building permits and draw up floor plans for people who want to fix up their old family homes. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we started, with more shops opening up nearby. We still keep the same old wooden door that sticks a bit in the summer. It's just a regular workplace where real things get designed every single day without much fuss.
