If you know GT Road in Ludhiana, you know it’s always packed. Our place, Poddar Tyres Ltd., is right along that stretch. It’s a prime spot because everyone passes by eventually, but the noise from the traffic is something you have to get used to. We spend our days surrounded by tyres of all sizes. The smell of rubber is pretty much stuck in our clothes by now, but we don’t even notice it anymore. The shop floor is always a bit cluttered with stacks of stock and tools lying around where someone just finished using them. It’s not the tidiest place, but we know where everything is. We get all sorts of people stopping by, from truck drivers who’ve been on the road for days to locals just looking for a spare. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and the floors get marked up pretty bad, but it’s an honest way to spend the day. We have a small back room where we keep the kettle for tea, and that’s usually where we sit for a few minutes when things slow down. The weather in Ludhiana can be tough, freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer, and the shop isn't exactly climate-controlled. We just wear more layers or drink more water and get on with it. It’s been here for quite some time, and we just keep doing what we do without making any fuss about it. We just keep the wheels turning.
