If you go down Street No. 1 in Partap Nagar, you will see our place at number 12186. It’s a shop filled with all kinds of metal parts, gears, and things for cars and other machinery. The smell of oil and grease is something you just get used to after working here for a few days. We have shelves that go all the way up to the ceiling, and half the time we need a ladder just to find a specific bolt or a gasket that someone needs. It’s a lot of manual work, moving heavy boxes and cleaning off parts that have been sitting for a while. Partap Nagar is a working neighborhood, so there is always the sound of engines or tools in the background. We spend our time helping folks who come in looking for something specific to fix their vehicles. Sometimes we have to dig through old crates in the back for an hour just to find what they need. It is not a clean environment, and our hands are usually stained black by noon. We have a small desk where we keep the ledger and the old telephone that rings louder than it should. It gets pretty cold in the winter because the big metal shutter stays open all day for the customers, but we just wear extra sweaters and keep moving. We are just a local parts shop trying to keep things running for the people who live and work around here.
