New Sardar General Store

New Sardar General Store is out on Dehlon Road in Sahnewal, which is part of Ludhiana. Being on the road means we see a lot of different people. We get the locals from Sahnewal, but we also get people just passing through who need a bottle of water or a quick snack. The shop is a bit exposed to the elements, so when the wind blows hard, we get quite a bit of dust from the road. We keep a good supply of general items—everything from washing powder to packaged cakes. It’s a simple building and we don't spend much on making it look pretty. We’re more concerned with making sure we have enough stock in the back room. Ludhiana is a huge industrial city, but out here on Dehlon Road, it feels a bit more open. We work long days, often staying open later than the shops in the main city because people travelling at night often need a place to stop. It can be a bit lonely during the quiet hours, but then a truck will pull up and we’ll be busy for a while. We don't have any big plans to expand or change things; we just want to keep the store running like it has been for years. It’s just us, the road, and the daily customers.
