Master Tent House

We are located right across from the Gurudwara Kutiya Sahib in Jamalpur Awana. If you see a big stack of metal poles and rolls of colorful cloth, that’s us. Master Tent House isn't a fancy name, but it’s what people call us. My father started this work and taught me how to tie the knots so the tents don't fly away when the wind picks up. It’s heavy work, moving the wooden platforms and the iron frames. We have an old truck that we use to haul everything to the sites. Sometimes we are working in the middle of the night to get a wedding set up for the morning. Jamalpur Awana is a tight-knit place, so most of our work comes from people who know us or saw us working at their cousin’s house. We have all kinds of cloth, some of it is getting a bit faded from the sun, but it still does the job. When it rains, we have to be really quick to cover the carpets or they get ruined. It’s not an easy job, your back hurts at the end of every day, but it’s what we do. We share tea with the guys from the Gurudwara quite often. It’s a good spot to be, right there on the main road where everyone can see us. I usually spend my Sunday afternoons checking the ropes and sewing up small tears in the fabric from the last event.
