If you go down Dhuri Line in Kumara Park East, that’s where you’ll find Krish Auto Parts. It’s a bit of a gritty spot, mostly because we handle a lot of greasy metal all day long. The shop floor is stained with oil, and we have parts stacked all the way to the ceiling on every wall. It’s hard to find anything if you don’t know where to look, but we have our own system that works for us. Most people come in looking for something specific for an old car or a bike. We spend a lot of time digging through heavy boxes. The trains pass by pretty close on the Dhuri Line, so the whole place vibrates every hour or so. We don’t really mind it anymore. It’s just me and a couple of assistants here. We keep a pot of coffee going in the back, though it’s usually cold by the time we remember to drink it. The shelves are heavy wood and they’ve started to sag under the weight of the brake pads and engine blocks. It’s not the kind of place where you’d want to wear a nice shirt or shoes. We’ve been here in Kumara Park East for a long time, and we know most of the local mechanics who stop by to gripe about their customers. We just sell the parts and listen to the stories. It’s a steady way to spend the day and keep the bills paid.
