Happy Forgings

You’ll find us over at 332 in Industrial Area-A. It’s a pretty packed part of town with trucks coming and going all hours of the day. Our place is one of the older ones on this block. We do a lot of forging here, which basically means it stays hot and noisy most of the time. There’s no getting around the dirt and the noise when you’re working with big pieces of steel. We spend most of our shifts moving between the heaters and the hammers. It’s heavy work, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired. We don’t have a big reception area or anything like that. If you come by, you’ll probably just see us in our work clothes near the loading dock. We focus on getting the shapes right for the various engine parts we handle. Every piece has to be checked, so there’s a lot of measuring going on. The guys in the back have been working these same hammers for a long time. They don’t say much, just get on with the job. It gets dusty, especially when the wind kicks up in the yard, but we keep the machines running regardless. We’ve got a small break room where we sit and eat lunch, usually talking about local news or whatever is happening on the street outside. It’s a basic setup, but it works for what we need to do every day.
