Down in Akalgarh, near the Halwara post office in Ludhiana, is where we are stationed. It’s a village area, so you get that mix of farm fields and industrial work. We are pretty close to the air force station, so we hear the planes sometimes, which adds to the noise of our own machines. Our office is a simple place in the Punjab countryside. We don’t have a lobby or a receptionist. Usually, you just walk in and find someone hunched over a desk or talking on a mobile phone. We are involved in some big construction projects around the district, and this is where the planning happens. It’s a lot of dirty boots and wrinkled maps. We don’t spend much on decorations. The walls are mostly covered with project schedules and safety charts. The weather can be pretty extreme, from freezing winters to those humid summers, but the work doesn't stop. We have a good group of guys who know their way around a construction site. We don't really have a grand vision we talk about; we just want to make sure the concrete sets right and the structures are solid. If you come by, you’ll probably get offered a glass of water and told to wait a minute while we finish a call. It’s just a normal workplace with normal people doing a difficult job.
