Our shop, Friends Gift Shopee, is tucked away in Kucha No 5 in Field Ganj. It’s one of those narrow streets where everyone is always moving and there’s usually a scooter parked right in the way. Inside, the space is a bit tight because we have so many boxes of things like wall clocks and showpieces. The walls are covered with different types of frames. It stays a little dark in the back, so we have a few extra bulbs hanging up. On hot days, the ceiling fan hums quite loudly, but it helps. People come in looking for things like perfumes or mugs for their friends. We don't really do anything special with the shop, just put things on the shelves where they fit. Sometimes the delivery guys bring stuff we didn't even remember ordering, so we have to find a corner for it. It can get a bit loud with the noise from the main road filtering through the alley. Most of the time it’s just us chatting with whoever walks in or rearranging the decorative statues so they don't fall over. We have been in this part of Field Ganj for some time and we’ve seen the buildings around us change quite a bit. It’s just a normal shop run by normal people. We keep the doors open all day and hope the rain doesn't leak through the front step when it pours. The floor is concrete and we have to mop it twice when the mud gets tracked in.
