Gopal Silk Store

Gopal Silk Store is tucked away in Chora Bazar, right near the 3 No Division. If you’ve ever walked through the bazaar, you know how crowded and loud it gets with all the scooters and people moving around. Our shop isn't huge, but we fill every bit of space with rolls of fabric and different silks. We spend a lot of time just folding and unfolding things for people who stop by. The light in the back of the store is a bit dim, so we usually bring the cloth near the front door so the colors look right in the sun. It’s been this way for years. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the material all day. We keep a small stool by the counter for when our legs get tired, though there isn't much sitting happening most afternoons. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, and sometimes we need the old wooden ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It’s a bit dusty up there, to be honest. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just the sign out front that’s been there since we opened. People find us because they know the area. On rainy days, we have to move the displays back so they don't get splashed by the puddles in the street. It's just a regular shop doing regular business in a busy market. We keep things pretty simple here. We usually head home once the streetlights come on.
