Shivalik Knitwears

You can find Shivalik Knitwears over in Brahampuri, right near the State Bank of India. It’s an easy landmark because everyone knows the bank. Our building is mostly filled with the sound of knitting machines going back and forth. It’s a rhythmic noise that you get used to after a few minutes. We deal with a lot of wool and yarn, so there are always bits of thread sticking to our clothes and the floor. It’s a bit of a mess during the winter months when everyone is rushing to get their orders finished. We have big bundles of finished sweaters and cardigans stacked up in the corners, waiting to be packed into bags. The lighting isn't the best, just some long tubelights that flicker sometimes, but it’s enough to see the patterns. We’ve been in Brahampuri for years, and the shop hasn't changed much in all that time. There is a small counter where we handle the cash and talk to the suppliers. Sometimes the power goes out and everything goes quiet, which is a bit strange, but then the generator kicks in and we get back to it. It’s hard work and the air is thick with the smell of new fabric. We aren't trying to be a big brand, just a local place making clothes for the cold weather.
