A S Auto Industries is located at 2675 Gill Street Number 1. If you know the area, you know it’s a tight fit with all the other shops and houses nearby. We’ve been working out of this spot for years and the walls are stained with oil to prove it. Most days start early with pulling up the shutters and moving some of the parts out so there’s room to move inside. It’s a small operation, mostly just a few of us handling the auto parts and whatever mechanical work comes our way. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling packed with bits of metal and gaskets. Finding one specific bolt can take a minute if you aren’t the one who put it there. The street outside is always narrow and crowded, so we have to be careful when customers bring their vehicles near the door. We talk to the other shop owners on Gill Street while we have our morning tea. It’s a community of people who all work with their hands. We don’t have a fancy website or a big sign, just the name on the door and a lot of old tools. The work is greasy and the hours can be long if a job is being difficult. We just take it one engine at a time and try to get things back on the road for people.
