Shekhar Hospital

Our location on Church Road in the Indira Nagar area of Lucknow stays pretty active from dawn until late at night. The hospital is easy to spot because of the way the entrance faces the main road. We have a lot of windows, so the light inside is actually quite good during the day. The lobby has those standard blue plastic chairs that you see in most places around here. We have a big clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly when the room is quiet. The receptionists are usually buried behind piles of registration forms and notebooks. It’s a tall building, and the view from the top floor shows a lot of the trees lining the local streets. We have some potted plants near the entrance that we try to keep watered, though they look a bit thirsty sometimes. The hallways are wide enough for two stretchers to pass, which is helpful during the busy morning hours. People come in from all over this part of Lucknow. We have a small area out back where the staff takes their lunch breaks. It’s just a regular hospital where the floors are mopped three times a day and the lights stay on all night. You can hear the sounds of the city through the vents, but it’s mostly just a low hum. We keep the kettle going in the staff room for whoever needs a cup of tea. It is a simple place.
