Shekhar Hospital

Being in B-Block of Indira Nagar near Bhootnath means there is always something going on outside. The hospital sits right in the middle of all that activity. We have these heavy glass doors at the entrance that always seem to have finger marks on them no matter how much we wipe. Inside, the hallways are long and have that specific smell of cleaning fluid and medicine. We have some plastic chairs lined up against the walls for families. The elevators are a bit slow, so most people just take the stairs if they aren't carrying much. Our reception desk is made of dark wood and has a lot of sticky notes stuck to the edges. We try to keep the charts in order, but it gets busy and things get messy sometimes. The windows in the rooms upstairs look out over the rooftops of the B-Block houses. You can see the traffic building up on the main road from there. It’s a large building, but it feels smaller once you’ve been here a few hours. We see a lot of people from the local neighborhood every single day. The night shift is quieter, with just the sound of the monitors and the occasional trolley rolling down the hall. We have a small canteen area where the tea is always hot and very sweet. It’s a plain place, but it’s where we work. We keep the lights on and the doors open for whoever comes by.
