Rehan Zari Art is based out of a single room in Sector-11, Rajaji Puram, at house number E-4936. It is basically a small home-based workshop. We have these large wooden frames set up where we do all the hand embroidery work. The room is usually full of bright colored threads, small needles, and different bits of fabric. It is an old tradition in our family to do this kind of work. We do not have a shopfront on a main road or anything like that. People usually find us through word of mouth or by just coming directly to the house to talk. The lighting in the room has to be kept very bright so we can see the very small details of the zari work as we stitch. We spend many hours every day sitting on the floor around those wooden frames. It is very quiet work, mostly just the soft sound of the needles passing through the stretched cloth. My uncle and a couple of other local workers do most of the heavy stitching work. We usually have some tea together in the late afternoons. The house is located in a quiet residential part of Rajaji Puram, so it is a very peaceful place for us to work. We do not have any fancy brochures or pictures. If someone wants to see what we do, they just come and look at the work on the frames. We just keep stitching every day.
