Radiance Fringes Curls is tucked into Sana Palace on Shahnajaf Road. If you know Hazratganj at all, you know it’s a chaotic place to be, especially on the weekends. We are right opposite Sahara Ganj, so we see the crowds moving back and forth all day long. The salon itself has a few big mirrors and those chairs that pump up and down, though one of them is starting to leak a bit of oil. We spend a lot of time sweeping up hair and cleaning the combs in that blue liquid. It smells like shampoo and hairspray in here most of the time, which is better than the exhaust fumes from the street outside. We have a small TV in the corner that we keep on a news channel with the volume turned down low. The lighting is bright so we can see what we are doing with the scissors. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in while a customer is halfway through a cut. It’s just part of the routine here in this part of town. We’ve got a few regular ladies who come in every two weeks just to chat as much as to get their hair done. It’s a busy life but we enjoy the company. We keep a stack of old fashion magazines on the table for people to look at while they wait.
