New Medicine

New Medicine is located right on Sitapur Road in Lucknow. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there is never a dull moment with all the traffic and people walking by. Our shop is quite simple. We have rows of shelves filled with all sorts of medicine bottles and packets. It’s a very clean place because we have to keep it that way, but it’s definitely not fancy. A lot of our day is spent reading handwritten notes from doctors and trying to find exactly what people are looking for. Sometimes we don't have something in stock, and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow after the delivery arrives. Lucknow can get very hot, so the cool air inside the shop is usually a relief for anyone who walks in from the street. We aren't a big hospital or anything, just a local medicine shop where we know a lot of the regular customers who live nearby. It’s a lot of standing on our feet and checking expiry dates on boxes. We don't have any big slogans or anything. We just open the shutters in the morning and stay until late at night because you never know when someone might need something. It’s steady work and it keeps us connected to the neighborhood. Sitapur Road is always loud, but once you step inside, it's just us and the quiet sound of the refrigerator humming in the corner.
