Nabi Lucknow Chikan Kurtis

We are located right at Gole Darwaza Chowk, very near the Masjid Asifi. If you know the area, you know it's always crowded and full of life from morning till night. Nabi Lucknow Chikan Kurtis is basically just a small shop where we keep our latest work and designs. The bells from the nearby areas and the calls from the masjid are part of our daily background noise while we work. We focus on the chikan work that this area is famous for all over the country. It’s a lot of hand-detail stuff, so the shop often has people sitting and checking the threads very carefully. It’s not a quiet place at all, but we are used to the noise. We have bags and boxes stacked up because space is very tight in the Chowk area. Most of our neighbors have been running their shops here as long as we have. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the people walking by throughout the day. Sometimes the hot weather makes it hard to work, but we just keep the fans going and manage. We don't really have a website or anything fancy; we just open the doors and see who comes in to look. The kurtis are piled high on the shelves, often touching the ceiling. Sometimes it’s hard to see the back wall through all the fabric. We try to keep things moving so nothing sits for too long. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, but it’s what we know best after being here so long.
