You can find Maa Chandrika Hospital out on Sitapur Rd in the Bakshitalab area of Aliganj. It’s a bit of a drive if you’re coming from the center of the city, but it’s a straight shot down the main road. Being near Aliganj means we serve a lot of different people from the nearby villages and the outskirts of the town. The hospital itself is a sturdy building that’s been standing there for a long time. It gets quite dusty because of all the traffic on Sitapur Road, so we are always sweeping and mopping the floors to keep things clean. It’s a practical place, not one of those shiny new buildings you see in the advertisements. We have the usual wards and a small area for emergencies that come in. The staff here is used to the long hours and the heat, especially during the summer months when the fans are going full blast all day. We mostly deal with everyday illnesses and the occasional accident from the road. There isn’t much in the way of fancy furniture, just the beds and the medical gear we need to do our jobs. People usually come in early to beat the heat and the crowds. We have a small courtyard where people can sit outside for a bit of air. It’s a very busy spot, but we try to keep things moving as fast as we can without rushing anyone. It feels like a real part of the community here.
