Working out of No. 44/3 Kidwai Depot means we are surrounded by rolls of fabric and the smell of raw cotton all day long. The depot is a busy place with a lot of heavy lifting and moving things around on trolleys. We spend our mornings checking the stock that came in and making sure the labels match what’s inside the bundles. It’s mostly a lot of repetitive work, cutting pieces to size or folding things up to be sent out to the shops. The floor is usually covered in little threads and scraps of cloth that we have to sweep up every evening before we head home. It’s not the cleanest environment, but it’s where the work gets done. We have some heavy-duty tables for spreading out the long bolts of cloth and big shears that stay sharp for the thick materials. Some days are slow and we just tidy up the shelves, but other times the orders pile up and we are moving fast to keep up. The lighting isn't great in some corners of the depot, so we have to be careful when we are looking for specific patterns or colors. It’s just a regular textile workspace where we handle the goods and get them ready for whoever needs them next. There’s always a bit of dust in the air from the fabrics, but we don’t mind it much.
