Sabiya Zari Art

My family has been around the Purani Bans Mandi area for a long time. Sabiya Zari Art is tucked away on Sitapur Road in Khadra, not too far from Milan Palace. If you know the neighborhood, it is easy to find us, but for others, it takes a minute. We do zari work and embroidery on different kinds of fabrics. It is slow, detailed work that takes a lot of patience. Most of the guys working here have been doing this since they were young. The workshop stays pretty busy throughout the day with the sound of needles and people talking. It’s not a fancy showroom. We have piles of cloth and thread everywhere. Sometimes the light in the alley isn't great, but we make do. People bring us their unstitched suits or heavy lehengas to get the gold thread work done. We see a lot of different patterns every week. Some take days, others take much longer. We don't really advertise much because word of mouth in Khadra usually keeps us busy enough. It is dusty work and our backs get tired from leaning over the frames all day. But this is what we know. We just focus on the thread and the fabric. It is a traditional trade and we are just trying to keep it going here in our corner of the city. We take orders as they come and try to finish them on time for the festivals and weddings.
