Gulrez General Centre

Gulrez General Centre is over in the Saadatganj area of Lucknow, right by Purana Chabutra. This is an old part of the city, and our shop fits right in. It’s a general store, so we carry the usual stuff people need for their homes. Things like detergent, loose tea, spices, and small plastic items for the kitchen. The shop is a bit cramped because we try to fit as much as we can on the shelves. Sometimes you have to move a box of biscuits to get to the soap. We don't have any staff really, just family members taking turns behind the counter. The street outside is narrow and can get quite muddy when it rains, but people still come through. We know the kids who come in for a single piece of chocolate and the elders who want to talk for ten minutes while they buy their monthly rations. It isn't a modern place with barcodes and scanners. We write things down in a notebook if we need to remember them. Lucknow is full of history, and Saadatganj has its own rhythm. We’ve been a small part of that rhythm for years now. We just do our work, keep the jars filled, and make sure the shutters are down by nightfall. It's a quiet existence, just providing the basics to the folks nearby and making sure we have what they need.
