Gyan Elevators

Gyan Elevators is tucked away in Bhalla Mansion on Maqbara Road in Hazratganj. If you know Hazratganj, you know it’s the heart of the city, and Maqbara Road has its own old-school charm. We work with elevators, which means we spend a lot of time in narrow shafts and motor rooms. It’s oily, mechanical work and it can get pretty hot, especially in the summer months. We aren't a huge brand name. We are just a group of people who know how to keep a lift running. Most of our days are spent responding to calls about a door that won't close or a button that’s stuck. We carry our toolkits up and down stairs more often than we’d like. The office in Bhalla Mansion is where we keep all the spare parts and the old manuals. It’s a bit cluttered with cables and grease rags, but we know where everything is. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy lobby. If you come by, you’ll likely find one of us cleaning a part or writing down a schedule for the next day’s maintenance. We just talk straight with our customers. If a motor is old and needs replacing, we tell them that. We don't try to sell things that aren't needed. It’s just about making sure people can get to their floors without any trouble. It is hard work, but someone has to do it to keep these old buildings moving.
