About M. R. Press – Books & Knowledge in Lohardaga
M. R. Press is out here in Sarnatoli Village, which is part of the Lohardaga district. It’s a quiet place compared to the big cities. We have our press here and we live right nearby. Most of our work comes from the local schools and small shops in the neighboring blocks. We do wedding cards, posters for local events, and the occasional pamphlet. The building is just a simple structure we built a few years back. It’s not fancy. We have a couple of older machines that still run great if you treat them right. Sometimes power cuts happen, so we have to plan our work around that. It’s a bit of a challenge but we manage. My brother and I run the place. We don't have a big staff. If we have a huge order, we might get a neighbor to help with the folding or packing. Sarnatoli is a nice community. Everyone knows where the press is. We don't need to advertise much. People just walk over when they need something printed. We use simple ink and paper we get from the town. It’s a steady life. Sometimes it gets dusty, especially in the dry season. We keep the machines covered when they aren't in use. It’s just how things are done here. If you’re passing through the village, you’ll see the sign out front. We’re usually around even on Sundays if there's work to finish. It is quiet most of the time.
