Life up here in Upper Changspa can be a bit quiet during the winter, but when the season starts, Tushita Trek & Tour gets really moving. Leh is a unique place to work because everything depends on the mountains and the passes being open. We spend a lot of time checking gear, making sure the tents are still good, and talking to guides about the routes. It’s not a corporate setup at all; it’s more like a group of people who love being outside and decided to make a business out of it. Our office is simple, just a place to store equipment and meet travelers who wander up this way. We get a lot of people asking about the best trails or how to deal with the altitude, and we just give them the straight facts based on what we see every day. There’s no point in making things sound easier than they are. Sometimes the power goes out or the internet is slow, but that’s just Leh for you. We’ve guided many groups through the hills and every time is a bit different depending on who is walking with us. It’s physically demanding work, especially when you're lugging supplies around, but the air is fresh and the views are hard to beat. We aren't trying to be the biggest agency around, we just want to do a good job for the people who find their way to our door. It is a simple life but it keeps us busy.
