The Kashmir Shawls Co.

Operating out of Vikas Bhavan on the Old Postoffice Road is quite an experience because of how the traffic changes throughout the day. The Kashmir Shawls Co. has been based here for some time now, and we’ve seen a lot of people come and go from the offices nearby. It’s not a very fancy setup, mostly just shelves and stacks of fabric that we have to keep moving around so we can find things. Some mornings start with a lot of dust from the road, so we spend a good chunk of time cleaning up before we can even start our actual work. The building itself is old and has a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit much when we are carrying heavy bundles up and down. We don’t really do big advertisements or anything like that. People mostly find us because they were walking by the old post office and decided to step in to see what we have. We have a small table in the back where we drink tea and talk about the day’s tasks. It’s a simple life, but it keeps us busy and we like the rhythm of this neighborhood. Sometimes the fans don't work and it gets stuffy inside, but that’s just part of being in this area. We focus on the items we have and try to keep things organized despite the constant flow of stock coming in and out every week.
