Himalayan Safaris

We are based in the Lassu Complex on Old Road in Leh. It is a familiar spot for anyone who has spent some time in the town. Himalayan Safaris is not a giant operation. It is mostly just us sitting in the office, talking to travelers and organizing trips out to the high mountain passes. The Old Road can get quite dusty in the summer when the jeeps go by constantly. Our office has a couple of benches for people to sit on while we talk through their travel plans. We have lived in Ladakh all our lives, so we know how the seasons change and which roads might be closed. The mountains are right there outside our window. Sometimes the electricity goes off for a few hours, but we just keep working by the window light. We handle a lot of paperwork for the inner line permits. It is a bit of a slow process sometimes. We have some old photos of the mountains pinned to the walls. It is not a fancy place, just a workspace where we get things done. We meet people from all over the world who come here for the trekking. We tell them what to expect with the altitude and the weather. It is honest work and keeps us busy throughout the year, though winter is much quieter. We spend those months mostly doing maintenance and planning for the next summer season when the passes open.
