We are based right here in Leh Ho, which is quite high up for some folks who visit. Desert Hamalaya Travel isn't some big fancy office with carpets and stuff, just a place where we sit and figure out how to help people see Ladakh. Living in Leh Ladakh all these years, you get used to the thin air and the way the sun hits the mountains in the morning. It gets really cold during the winter months, so things slow down a lot then. But when the passes open, it gets busy. We spend a lot of time talking to drivers and making sure the cars are okay for the rough roads out toward the lakes or the valleys. Some roads are just dirt and rocks, so you have to know who is driving. We’ve lived here our whole lives, so we know the shortcuts and which tea stalls have the good bread. People usually come in asking about where to go, and we just tell them what we know. It’s not a complicated business, just mostly about being honest about the weather and the distances. Sometimes the permits take a bit of time, so we tell people to be patient. Ladakh isn't a place where you can rush everything. We just keep the door open and wait for whoever comes by needing help with their trip. It's a simple life here in the 194101 area, and we just do our work.
