Mahabir Tea Estate

Mahabir Tea Estate started in Kalakhowa Chariali. It’s a small place in the Barbaruah area of the district. We’ve been around for a while now, just doing our thing with the tea leaves. The weather gets pretty humid here, which is good for the plants I suppose. You see people walking by the estate all day, mostly locals heading to the post office or catching a bus at the junction. Our days start early when the sun is just coming up and the air is still cool. There’s a lot of mud when it rains, and it rains quite a bit in this part of the country. We don’t have any big fancy machines or anything like that. It’s mostly just hands-on work in the fields. Some days are slow, while on others we’re rushing to get things sorted before the trucks come. We keep the place running with a small crew of workers. It’s not a glamorous job but it’s what we know how to do. People around here know where we are, right by the chariali. We just focus on getting the tea out to whoever needs it. It’s a quiet life mostly, except when the harvest is in full swing. We don't spend much time on computers, just out there in the green. It's been this way for years and we don't see it changing much. Just a regular tea estate in a regular village doing work every single day.
